Default New book arrived - Rotary Fly-Tying Techniques by Al & Gretchen Beatty

Just received Rotary Fly-Tying Techniques by Al & Gretchen Beatty. Thumbing through the index, the chapters are arranged by vice manufacturers. The book itself is choked full of detailed pictures and of course tying techniques. I am looking forward to reading this book.

You guys are gonna love it. Not to give to much away. But the historical section is very interesting. Let's just say rotary tying vises did not begin with Renzetti. Also interesting is Gretchen comes from a family of tyers. Now when I watch tying videos by Al & Gretchen I understand why Gretchen (an Al) are so good at tying.

    G-man,

I am still waiting on that Nor-Vise you were gonna buy me.

Actually, I am doing a trade with one of the members here. I am trading one of my DK's w/ accessories for his Nor-Vise w/ accessories.

    Default Dvd

    I own the DVD: http://cgi.ebay.com/ROTARY-TYING-TEC...QQcmdZViewItem

I'm not selling them, but like I said I like it and would buy again. Something about a DVD to "show" you how things are to be done that I just don't get from a book. The book and the DVD would be a good team.

The dvd is great! From skimming through the book, it looks to have more techniques described than what is shown on the dvd, but yes I agree there is no subsitute for live (or virtual) performance.

    Tyrone,

Gotta agree about the live performance. Sat and watched Al and Gretchen tie at the Idaho Fish-In year before last. I had a headache from slappiong my forehead while uttering, "Duh! Why didn't I think of that!"

    Great learning experience.
