Thread: Bighorn River - Caddis Flies!

Default Bighorn River - Caddis Flies!

The caddis flies were out yesterday. Wow. Not bad for a cloudy and cool day in mid-August. The fun of dry fly fishing on the Bighorn might be back.

PaulM; I'd give my eye teeth if we had caddis hatches like that in New Zealand.

With all that food. The mind boggles as to what size trout we might get. Jax

I'm on my way! In November anyway, maybe we could fish for a day.

I was on the Bighorn last year at this time.

The black caddis were out as well, but the trout weren't rising.

My guide said there was just too much biomass on the bottom for the fish to bother coming up.

    Were they rising for you?

A friend of mine floated the Bighorn during the Caddis Hatch- Bugs everywhere but still only caught fish on the bottom on midges.
Someone needs to straighten out those fish. They need to learn what they are SUPPOSED TO DO!!

We fished dries almost all day long! I had the nymph rig on for less than 30 minutes. The guides kept with the nymph rigs, but we decided to say with the dry/emerger setup. We probably didn't as many fish or as many big fish, but I was darn happy with the dry fly action.
