Default Pretty day, great fishing, new fly

Sometimes you hit things just right ... even when you don't expect it. I got up, headed for the lake and launched my Ultimate 14.5.

The lake was substantially lower than a month ago. I didn't think fishing would be that good, and it started out slow. But when I changed to a No. 12 gold-bead nymph, things improved in a hurry.

I caught 30 bluegill and several really nice speckled perch on the nymph. I noticed when the action slowed, that fish were hitting my strike indicator.

So, I tied on a new fly for me, a creation my wife has dubbed the "Skitterbug." It worked first cast and produced really well. Caught 30 more bluegill, a really nice shellcracker, two golden shiners, and two small bass.

    Here a some pics:

    Decent speck:

Bingo! And it has just the right amount of rigidity for good popping action.

Air temp was about 68; water temp about the same. I'm heading for the Everglades today and the air temp will be about 83.
