Last year I posted about a bug infestation I had. After freezing and washing all my natural materials I placed them in plastic tubs about the size of a banker box with about 15-20 mothballs in each tub. Needless to say opening the tubs releases a strong odor. Because of that I have several smaller tubs I transfer materials to for tying. I don't have any mothballs in these smaller tubs. I leave the tubs to air out on a bench on my patio for a few houts then over night in my garage. Even then the smell of mothball is so strong that I was getting a buzz after a couple hours of tying from the fumes coming off the materials and bags in the tub.

Questions:

Should I be using less mothballs per tub? If so how many?
How long should I air the materials out before handling/using?
Are the materials now toxic to the fish?

Before the infestation I use natural deterrents like cloves and cedar. After my experience with mothballs I am thinking may be I'll go back to the natural deterrents and take my chances.
