I am tying up some large flies. Heading to Lake Fork in TX for hopefully some big bass. Decided I needed a mongo-Clouser . . .



Gama 3/0 hook
1/4" I-Balz
Flash-n-Slinky material

It's 6 inches long . . . I'll be throwing this on my 9 wt

Nice looking fly.

Send me some and I'll cast them on my five weight, just so you can see it.

Your fly would work really well on some pike I know about....even with a five weight rod....

Really, 6 inches isn't all that big for a clouser. Bob wrote that one tied on a #2 hook should be about 5 1/2 inches long....

Our "normal" Clouser for White Bass and smallies is a #4. It's a couple-3 inches long.

Nice fly - just don't hit yourself in the back of the head! It could knock you out. Fork is supposed to be pretty good this year and the next full moon holds promise. If we can just get it to quite snowing down here and let the water warm up! Good luck.

There's a spot on the Fall River in northern California where I fish a small Clouser. The shop close to where I live only sells sizes 2 & 6 and I wanted something smaller....so I tied my own on a size 9 barbless hook (Fall River requires barbless and size 9 was about the length I wanted...plus I liked the novelty of tying on an odd-numbered hook size).

I use the solid barbell eyes so the fly sinks fast. There's a little dock I can stand on once in a while and cast upstream. The fish are on the bottom right above the dock so I can watch them as the fly comes through. It's as much fun as dry fly fishing (maybe more fun since I get to see the trout following the fly).

I guess I'm the oddball here for going smaller instead of larger...

was gonna say, that's pretty much the smaller side of the scale up here for bulltrout..and because what you've tied it out of, it won't contain water, so it won't be too hard to cast...

i've tossed things over 12" long on a 6 weight
