I am putting backing on a new salt water reel. I want to put on 50 yards of neon
and then fill the spool with white. What
knot should I tie to splice the two colors of backing?

Agree with JC. Another option would be to put a loop in one and then attach the other with an improved clinch knot.

Why not splice them together-each should be spliced into the other. You will need a .010 metal guitar wire to open up the braid.

I do the same thing so I know when I only have 50 yards of backing left. I use a handshake knot, I put a perfection loop in each of the backings and do a loop to loop connection.

My vote also goes to the loop-to-loop system.

Bimini loops should give you a 100% connection.

JC, I even change lines with loop to loop, when I get a new line I put a few feet of backing on the reel end of the line, then tie a peferction loop, all my reels have a loop on the end of the backing. I can change lines easily.

I use a loop-to-loop on everything.
But in this case, as JC said , the blood knot is the only way to go.
The one exception would be if you were incorperating a short(25 yards or less) section of mono for a shock absorber/stretch section, between the dacron and the fly line.
Then the loop to loop would be best.

I'm beginning to use two uniknots more often....kind of like the fact that the tag end goes under the wraps.
