    Default Request for info

I'm going to be in the Alpharetta/Roswell area of Georgia on the week of April 7-11 and have never been there before. Are there any good fishing spots that I can go hit in the evenings, or should I just get a guide and go hit Lanier for stripers? I hear there is some trout fishing in the area as well, but am not sure how the drought has effected things. Can anyone help out here with some guidance or pointers? Thanks.

Even though my address says Glenmoore PA, I lived in Alpharetta for almost 20 years. The best/closest place to go is the Chattahoochee River, it's the tailwater for Lake Lanier. Lots of big trout, but you will need a float tube to fish it (lots of drop offs). I don't know how the drought has affected the river, but I know that they have gotten some rain this winter. I was just there last week for a wild boar hunt and of course it rained for 2 days straight. I think the Alpharetta area got over 2", so that should help bring the lake levels up.

Wild boar? Hmmm.... Been known to do that, too.

What sort of patterns should I have with me, and can I use my 4 weight, or is the 6 a better choice? (How big are they?) Like I said, this is new territory for me, so if you assume I know nothing, you're pretty close to being correct.

    ol' Blue,

It's been too may years since I've fished the 'hooch in April to give you an accurate opinion on what flies work best that time of year. Hopefully some of the FAOL locals will chime in. I did a Google on the 'hooch and found a couple of sites worth checking out. The 'hooch is a wide river so I would use a 6 wt to give me some extra casting distance, especially if you are not floating the river. Sorry I can't be of more help.

    Ol' Blue,
    Check out this message board.
    http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ngto/

It's dedicated to North Georgia Trout fishing (actually North Georgia Trout Online). These guys mostly live there and fish the area a lot.

    Hope it helps.

    Jeff
