    The real Norm Wood's special is tied with a very specific color of calf tail wing....and it ain't white.

    Norm...Scott is correct...though I don't know if it ever got an "official " color designation...Norm used to dye his own calftail.

    Also the wing is tied more "down wing".


    I may have one here tied by Norm...I'll see.

    In this pic from Deschutes Canyon Fly Shop the wing looks sort of pale pink. I have seen some tied in that color. It's hard to find a calf tail that color. I hope Ducksterman find the fly. It would be nice to see one Norm tied.

    Here are 3 different calftails...the one in the middle is the one.... it was dyed by Rich Youngers of Creekside Fly Shop in Salem, OR....he worked with Norm to get the exact color that Norm liked....

    The fly may not be tied by Norm....It's been awhile and I think this is the one Rich gave to me that Norm tied...but not sure and I have 7 or 8 "sample" flies of the Norm Wood Specials tied by various guides over the years.

    You can see the color is not really a tangerine but I think is different enough to have a real name...I used to call it "apricot".
