If you had a twist-on type you must not have had it on correctly. Never had one fail with a fish on the line.

The ones that I had the problem with were the twist in ones. I find they also offer much more air resistance than a nail knot. If you don't have confidence in something, in this game, it isn't for me. If you are happy with them, go in peace as they say. My opinion is that a nail knot is a better mouse trap when push comes to shove. On those 40 pound carp, use a nail knot, on a 4 pound trout (which is a beauty by the way) you can probably use the L2L. On steelies, big carp and salmon I am a nail knot guy for sure.
