Default Fishing out west??

My cousin and 2 friends (they'll probably see this) are planning a week long trip out west to fish next summer, probably around Yellowstone Park. We are in the preliminary stages of planning. I know we want to catch some cutthroats as well as just experience the area. I know some of you have fished out there. Does anyone have any helpful information they could provide on fishing, lodging, anything??? Websites?? Guides?? Feel free to e-mail me if you'd rather do that than post here.
Thanks in advance,

Bonedog,
Here is a web site that I have used before with alot of information in it. Depending on where you are going to have your base at you might try searching in that area on the web. http://www.yellowstonenationalpark.com/[/url:493e4]
This site gives lodging and flyfishing information and then I found these two links at the bottom of the page. http://www.yellowstoneflyfishing.com/[/url:493e4] http://www.yellowstonelodging.com/[/url:493e4]

Good luck and have fun.

Since you are a Georgia fan, I will try to help on this too.

You stated "fish around Yellowstone Park." Is that meant to exclude trips into the back country to fish inside the Park? There are numerous creeks/rivers within the Park worht fishing.

The big names-Madison, Gallatin, etc. have plenty of operators out of West Yellowstone. And the Yellowstone is fished by people from there and Livingston and various other points. One can get off and fish tributaries to the Gallatin, etc. and find himslef with an appreciable number of 16-18 in fish and not many fishermen.

The Henry's Fork of the Snake is not too far to the south of the Madison and W. Yellowstone in ID.

Purchasing a Montana Atlas and Gazeteer is not a bad investment, along with one of the guides such as "Flyfisherman's Guide to Monatana" to help plan your trip.

After Labor Day, that whole area is a new world for fishermen. The kiddies are back in school and tourists are at work.

As you prolly know, the Tetons are just to the south of YNP. The Snake River runs down the valley past the mountains and southward. The Snake is a heck of a cutthroat fishery. The drift trip down past the Tetons is beautiful, particularly in fall when the leaves change and there is white powder on the mountains. It is a fun place to fish for cuts.

Thanks, 24mb, I will definitely check those out.

Thanks to you too, RT, I did not mean to exclude fishing in the park. We would be open to anything, a day of drift fishing has been mentioned as well as perhaps hiring a guide for a day or 2. No options have been ruled out. I'm a teacher so it will be sometime in July.

Thanks to both,

Around yellowstone--have you checked on the license fee's? Outside the park Wyoming NR $75 or $10 per day. I fish the park and it is $15 per day 20 for seven days. They have good lodging and cuts can be caught anywhere along the lake shore, back woods fishing and lots of streams. Some nice looking ponds along the road are shallow and have no fish due to winter freezing.

yellowstoneflyfishing.com has some decent information on some of the more popular places to fish in Yellowstone Park. In my opinion, fishing inside the park is one of the easiest, yet greatest, trout fishing experiences you can have. You can certainly catch the Yellowstone cutthroat in the Yellowstone river if its open during the dates you'll be in the park, as well as the rivers in the northeast part of the park and some really big fish in Yellowstone Lake. You'll want to check the opening dates for the areas you want to fish, as some areas do not open until Jul. 15. There is also great fishing around the park, but if you haven't fished the park before, its a great place to start, and perhaps to finish your trip.
As for guides, places to stay, etc., I can't help much with that.

You may also contact North Fork Anglers in Cody Wyoming. http://www.northforkanglers.com/[/url:8927a] or you can call them at (307) 527-7274 They are not to far from yellow stone and they also have the Buffalo Bill museum there which is also pretty cool.
