Thanks for the info everyone!

I sent off the rod yesterday. I told them in the letter that I realize they must determine if the breakage was manufacturer's defect or not and, if they found it was not, I would be happy to pay for any repair or replacement cost.

Whatever they decide is fine with me. I am fortunate enough to have two back-up rods (neither of which is as high quality as my LU, but they function all the same).
