    Default Pet Fur Fly Swap

This swap has been completed as of 3/9/2008.

now that our dogs and cats have their full winter coats, and before they begin to shed it, how about sharing those special flies that can only be made in YOUR home? Gold Ribbed "Tang" Tummy Nymph, anyone? how about "L'il Joe's" Ruff Wet Fly?

this might be the first ever Pet Fur Fly Swap here at FAOL, so don't miss out!

the flies for this swap must include some fur (or feathers) from your resident companion animal, which of course will not be harmed in any way. there is no penalty for using the same pattern as someone else because the name of the fly will be different. here is your chance to immortalize your special animal pal when you name the fly after the provider of the chief ingredient. fly may be large or small, for trout or bass or whatever.

    room for 12 tiers--need at least 5

    --INCLUDE SIZE OF FLY, PLEASE
flies to me by Feb 29

usual practices apply: my address to you via PM upon sign-up; put your screen name and the name of the fly on a toe tag (and post the recipe on this thread if you want to); send me your flies in a sturdy box big enough to hold the flies you will receive; put your screen name on the box; send a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope (or a new label and enough stamps) for me to use to return the box to you. Delivery Confirmations are nice, but not required.
feel free to post a photo of your pet along with the fly recipe.

    Wink

Can the "pet" be human? I can't stand my cat and won't touch the thing with a ten foot pole, and we haven't replaced Dougie the Dog since having to put him down almost 8 years ago. Still quite painful. I might be able to talk a family member out of a lock of hair, though. JGW

Tried to brush the cat but got no fur. Wife was not looking so I grabbed the scissors and clipped a pinch. The prototype came out pretty good but not as orange as I would have liked, so I will clip from a different spot ( something brighter ) when the wife is not home.

    Shhhhhhhh don't tell her LOL

I know what it's like being a first time swap host, I was there last year. Be careful these things are addictive, just make sure you don't take on more than you can effectivly organize with your general life, work, ect. And the unexpected and you are going to have alot of fun.

That said, I have been lurking, watching to see how fast your swap fills, before commiting, as I am running one myself, have joined two and work seems pretty busy lately. So what I did was get my other swaps almost tied and came up with a pattern for your swap. My flies are tied and should be mailed this weekend in addition to the other swaps I have joined.

So Sign me up with a wet fly I am calling

    Black Dog and Grizzly.

Hook size 14 or 16 wet fly of your choice
    Thread Black 6/0
dubbing: black dog under fur from my lab/shep mix.
    Wing grizzly saddle hacklefibers

It's nothing too fancy but it should catch trout, espcially during a small black caddis hatch I have seen on some of the rivers here and elsewhere.
