For me, Winter is probably my favorite season to fish. The number one reason has to be the solitude. One of my favorite rivers, the Deschutes, is usually pretty busy during the Spring & Summer so I spend a ton of time there during the winter. On all but the coldest days, you can usually find trout willing to come up for dries (think slack water and back eddies that'll warm up the fastest).

occasionally (more often lately), I'll nymph and as some have already stated, most of the trout will be hanging out in the slower seams and pretty deep. They'll usually be hanging out in water that is slightly slower than where they'd be at other times of the year.

Plus, out here in the west, you can always hook up with the almighty whitefish.

anyway, there's my 2 cents,
~Randy
