What does 5/6 mean?

I recall a conversation with Diamondback Rods a few years ago regarding their Classic Trout model (a devil of a nice flyrod and one of their most expensive) that had a dual line designation. Mine was a 4/5 and they recommended I use either a 4DT or a 5WF.
