    Default Ferrules

I am looking for a source for ferrules for bamboo rods. I will be starting my first couple of bamboo rebuild projects this winter. I would like to use something a little nicer than the what I found on Jann's Netcraft, but I would rather wait till I have a few projects under my belt before I spend the money on the jewelry caliber pieces I have seen on the Goldenwitch web site. Thanks for your help.

    John,
Goldenwitch has "field grade" ferrules, too. Reasonably priced.
Trouts don't live in ugly places.

A friend is not who knows you the longest, but the one who came and never left your side.

Don't look back, we ain't goin' that way.

http://www.goldenwitch.com Golden Witch is a great source of rod building materials. I haven't used their ferrules yet but know some that have. They a well worth the price. If you mail Russ and Erica the old ferrules they will get you as close to a perfect match as possible. Email them and let them know what you need.

Great company and they also have an EBay store now.

    hmmm...
I try to avoid goldenwitch. they don't have a monopoly on components, they just think they do and act like it. good luck finding what you order in stock there.

nice ferrules at comparable prices are available from rec components, rush river rods and bellinger. all of which offer top notch materials at competitive prices.

Mr. Blur, sorry to hear of a bad experience with Russ and Erica, I have used them for years and have had nothing but great success with them. I am sure that if you talked to Russ you could get matters resolved. I like their field grade ferrules, as well. I am pretty sure they are an Arcane product, and not a bad one at that. As for REC, nothing but praises and accolades as well, great folks, great products, fast service and always on top of their game as well.

Lots of folks have great service and ferrules, but if you decide to order from any of them, it is wise to verify with the seller how they size the ferrules as I have found some that use different dimensions ....just a thought

    Herefishy

There are more and more rodmakers that have experimented with bamboo ferrules from Bjarne Fries, Calvielo, Schlecht and more recently Poratelli from Italy who taught me his technique which can be realized without the use of special tools nor modifications to the planing form.

The ferrules work very well, and according to the masters they do not alter the transmission of the energy wave from the butt to the tip which a metal ferrule usualy does. They are strong and the most recent ones even look good. If you are interested in further information regarding the technique there is an interesting article regarding the dimensioning of bamboo ferrules on our website: www.rodmakers.it. The article can be downloaded in English.

John, Have you found the ferrules you need yet? I own Cold Creek Rod Company and have just recently decided to join the "internet world". I hope to have my first web site soon but I'm not in a hurry. If this is in-fact your fist attempt to do this work I can possibly help. I will make you a set of ferrules for cost minus my time. I have always encouraged beginners to dive into rod building soon that later. If you have the original ferrules you could send them to me and I will replicate them, or you can give me the sizes you need and I can make you a set of SuperZ's. I use new nickel/silver rod #18 and it will take about a week to get them cut and in the mail. The cost is $3.95 for priority US Post envelope and the material cost "minus" my labor (for your first attempt) will be $4.50. Total $8.35. However, part of the fun in learning the business is sizing the ferrules. I will oversize the male/males by .001 and you can finish and polish them to meet your needs as you see fit. Let me know if you still need them, or if I can be of any other help. Good luck...

Golden Witch is good, but there are other good choices, too, if you prefer,

    like J D Wagner

    or Tony Larson

to name a couple we use.
