Default Carp Fly Swap!!! - FULL! Get 'em in folks!

    Howdy-

I am interested in hosting a swap during my break from school. Let's do a Carp Fly Swap. Any fly you use for Carping! Mulberry, Corn, Damsel Nymph, Bugger, Crawdad, anything! Let's see what you got!

Here's how we will get 'er done: Twelve (12) people, name your fly for Carp and tie twelve (12) flies. I wanna try and stick with Bassman's swap etiquette... ya know, self-addressed stamped envelope for return, crush-proof box, toe tags, recipes are welcome with fly or on the BB! I will PM those that sign up with my addy by PM.

Due Dates to be mindful of: Sign-up by December 22nd (Saturday) and Flies IN by Saturday, January 5th, 2008 (if that is too quick, we can back it up a bit if everyone is on-board)

    Let's have some fun tying!!!

    Default Experiment

It's official. The Clouser Swimming Nympth catches snakeheads, too.

I caught this wannabe freshwater barracuda yesterday morning in the Oostenala River, between Calhoun and Rome, Ga.. There is a population of snakeheads in the Oostenala, and probably the Altahama as well. I do my best to keep the population in check. This bruiser was the Guest-Of-Honor at our breakfast table. (note-this is not a bowfin. I am a biologist and I know the difference).

My apologies for the poor quality photo. I had the digital camera with me that I don't know how to use very good. It's my wifes and has a million settings on it. Mine is pretty much point-and-shoot.

Flies will be in the mail as soon as I get an address.

I'm going to change the pattern I'm sending for the swap. It'll be Andrew's Carp Slider. The Slider is not my creation, rather it's the fly of a friend and fellow carp guy here in Northern Colorado, Andrew Spinato. It reminds me quite a bit of a Tarpon Toad scaled down for carp or some of Borski's saltwater gems. It flat out catches fish. The fly mimics a small crawfish and has worked very well for me in all brown. I do occationally change the chenille color, but tend to leave the tail and "claws" brown. The Slider I'm tying is lightly weighted, best suited for shallow water feeders. It lands nice and soft. If needed, the weight of the fly can be changed by tying it with heavier eyes.

I ran out of black bead chain in the right size, so a few of the bugs will have red eyes which are equally effective.

I hope you enjoy them next spring. It, along with my ZZ Top Carp Bug, produced well over 100 fly caught carp last season, as well as a couple catfish and quite a few bass and 'gills. I'll tie the ZZ Top for the next swap.

    Peace
    Chad

I'll try and mail tomorrow before I leave town...if not...when I get back, but it may cut it close to the Saturday delivery date.
