Instead of making a billion topics, thought i'd throw a bunch of flies i've tied into here. All of them are applicable to the rivers in alberta, (bow river, crowsnest, etc), obviously, some are more applicable then others (and some are for lakes)

Sinking Boatmen:
Size 12 pupa hook
Black Beadhead
Underwrap with lead
Backing: small strip of brown foam covered in Brown stretch flex
Legs: Zebra legs, small brown
Body: Peacock Ice dub

Very easy tie, and works extremely well..I usually fish this a couple feet infront of my floating boatmen to get them to bob

Floating boatmen
Size 12 pupa hook
No beadhead or underwrap
backing: Deer hair covered in foam with brown stretch flex over top
legs: zebra legs, small brown
body: Peacock Ice dub

Size 14 pupa hook
Tail : pheasant tail, try to split into 3
Body: Brown hares ear dubbing, pheasant pulled over. Back ends of biot tied in backwards, then reversed and tied in again to give you the segmented back abdomen
Rib : Gold / bronze
Legs : 4 - 6 biots, brown
