What happens to my message when I answer a post and I never see it after I hit submit?

After you respond to a PM and "click" on submit, it will show up in your "Outbox". If that is the only PM you have responded to, there will just be the number 1 showing up to the right of the word "Outbox". The number will remain there until the person you sent the PM to reads your response and then it will disappear. If you "click" on your "Outbox", when there is number beside it, your message that you sent will show.

Had the same problem. I found that I was hitting submit and then hitting another item such as "view new posts" before my original response had time to process. Maybe you are doing the same???
