Hi Doug
They area a northern australian fish, tropical waters with the crocodiles up the top of the country. They grow huge, are fantastic sport fish and are the best tasting fish you would ever eat. More and more are being farm grown and even stocked in impoundments very successfully.
Many people fly fish for them as well as lures - as far as I know they take both with great enthusiasm.
Sadly, I have not as yet had a go. It is cheaper by a long way for me to go to Tasmania or New Zealand to trout fish than head up to the "top end" top hunt a barra or two, as much as I would like to.

Gringo,
Thanks for the info!! It is unusual for the KATU site to display Fish Photos from Australia, but your the first person I thought of to ask about Barramundi.

Gday Gringo, funny the people you bump into fare from home. Its SteveDally from Flylife.
Co-incidentally I had a couple of guys wander into my shop in Arkansas yesterday telling me they had been barramundi fishing last Friday _ I was going Kool where? thinking Nth Oz somewhere.
Nope Florida. Apparently there is a private fishery somewhere around Lake Kissimmee, and they have barra
Being a Tasmanian by birth Im probably now living closer to Barramundi now than I ever was back in Australia LOL
anyway for interests sake www.osceolaoutback.com.
Hmm just looked at the pricing $800 for 4hrs _ wish I could get that on my guide trips LOL. But Im guessing there is a chunk to the fishery itself.
Cheers
Hi Steve - that's amazing! Small world too.
I might be more likely to fish for one in Florida too before I get to fish for one here - at the rate I am going anyway.
What part of Tassie? I was Hobart bred....
