I will not tell you what make/model to get but will drum in with a big 'Get One'. Get the mapping software as well. And last, get a good sized memory card to load maps onto the GPS. With a GPS and a decent sized memory card you can load much of a states (sometimes multiple states) map onto the card to allow you to see both roads and streams or at least ground contours to help locate streams. Then, you can use the GPS to help get as close as possible to the river/stream you plan to fish, then set a waypoint for where the car is, hike in, mark where you got on the stream, get a compas heading back to the car, and go fishing. Allways carry a real compass, at the least, in case something happens to the GPS. Know what heading you have to take back to the car, and, if they work in the area you are in, carry a cell phone. Let somebody know where you plan to fish and when (at least what day) you will be coming back in case something happens.

A GPS with maps can open up new angling opportunities for you. Have fun but be carefull when going into remote areas.
