Thread: The March Brown

    Default The March Brown

I have added more info and pictures to the March Brown Patterns on my site.
The March Brown is the (Rithrogena germanica) and Late or False March Brown (Ecdyonurus venosus) of Europe, to all intents and fly dressing purposes, these are the same fly.

I don't suppose they are all that different from the various North American March Browns, so the patterns may be of some use.

    Hi Donald,

A lovely selection of March Browns. I see you mention in one of the patterns that yellow floss is used for males and gold wire for females! I've not seen that as a distinction before. I learn something new every day, unfortunately I'm starting to forget two things every night!

Donald, other than some minor differences, they appear very similar. Those recipes you have sound like real winners. I like the idea of mixing the yellow mohair, with hare mask. That would make an excellent color. I'll be using your site quite a bit, next May. lol.

Well, I suppose they are bound to be very similar, they are for two flies that are very difficult to tell apart and have not changed
in thousands or probably millions of years. But it funny how what appears like a minor change, i.e. mixed H. E. and claret, for just H. E.
    can affect your catch rate.
I have just tidied up the Spiders a bit and added another picture.

    Donald,

As usual, very nicely done. What a wealth of information you have on your site and free to one and all. My compliments, my friend.
