    Default Rod finish

    Hello all.
Been reading rod building forum for a while and have a few questions. First I have a question on rod thread --- silk or regular rod wrapping thread ?. Second what finish should I use,(ut U-40 Permagloss 1 part finishor something else?)

I have built a rod dryer from info I received from the forum here and built a thread tension device from a mouse trap . the parts are ordered and I'm going to give it a go

    Thanks in advance.

If you are building a bamboo rod use silk, other wise use the regular stuff (Gudebrod if you can get it). If you use permagloss you can toss your new dryer since it dries in just a few minutes but you will need perhaps 5 coats to get any buildup. It is your call if you use varnish, permagloss or one of the epoxies. They all work. It is a matter of the final look and what you feel comfortable working with
