Thread: I've never caught one of these before...

Default I've never caught one of these before...

While flyfishing today I got something snagged on my hook - at first I thought I had pulled a leaf or something off of a tree on my backcast, but as I went to clear it off it started buzzing around... I'm glad I had my camera for this -

    WillyB-

Were you able to successfully release it?

    Hi WoollyB,

That is an amazing photo. I was wondering if the dragonfly was just flying along and got snagged or if it came after you fly and tried to grab it. My bet is that you got a vote of approval from the insect community and the dragonfly tied to catch your fly first.

I hope that you are going to practice catch and release. No dragonfly fillets on the grill for this Fourth of July----please. 8t

I don't know how he ended up on there - whether he went for my fly or just had an unlucky day. He lost his abdomen in the encounter, but I removed the hook and he flew away anyway. I also have a short video clip of him buzzing around.

Jeez, that beats the bats I've managed to catch during evening hatches!

It gives new meaning to the term, "fly fishing".

So let me get this right...

...you were fishing an ultra-realistic Dragonfly pattern when you accidentially snagged a size 14 Elk Wing Caddis??

    JimmyG,

The camera is a fujifilm finepix 2800Zoom.

The picture was taken in macro mode -

it does okay for a 2.0MP camera.
