I will be antelope hunting near Gilette in mid October and would love to wet a line in the Big Horn Mountains area. Any advice on where to fish? My preference would be a smaller stream where dry flies are effective. Is October a good time of year?

Can't say as to where to fish around Gilette but October in Wyo. is usually great fishing and there should be some good streams close. There should be a sporting goods store in Gilette that can help you with stream locations, it has grown large enough. I haven't been thru there in several years. I hunt the southern end of the Wind River Range and the stream that runs thru camp is pretty good fishin,,,when we aren't too busy hunting.
