I mean the one you would never tie without not counting your vise?

    LOL!!

I would say my Dr Slick smooth jawed barb crimpers. They are spring loaded & do a great job.

I'm glad you said "tool" or my answer would be ...hook

    Let's see...thinking this through

...something to wind with...my fingers can do that...especially with a spool in my palm...actually do that sometimes

...something to cut with....scissors ...razor blade...etc..

...knot tyer....that would be fingers again...

It would have to be scissors....can't gnaw with my teeth...

My fingers, definitely my favourite, I am very attached to them.

Back in Grump mode for a minute.
A bobbin is the round article, wood, plastic or metal, which the thread is wrapped around, also sometimes called a spool.

I learned to tie without a bobbin so I can do without one. Pretty hard to tie a good fly without scissors. A pair that will fit in my hand with kinda long smooth point.

Most of the flies I tie are for saltwater. The hooks I use need to be sharpened or you won't be catching any fish.
Before I smartened up I used a file. It took a good chunk of time to sharpen each hook, and it wasn't easy to get a good edge.
Then I discovered the Dremel Tool
Zip, zip, zip and it's done.
The simpler the outfit, the more skill it takes to manage it, and the more pleasure one gets in his achievements.
