Default What is the biggest fly you throw at bass?

Just wondering what is the biggest fly size/pattern you all fish for bass is. Mine would be size 2 clousers and size 2 poppers.
Take care, go catch a big one

I've made up some #4 wooley buggers but I can't say they do any better than a size 6. I guess I use #2 poppers too.
Good fishing technique trumps all.....wish I had it.

It depends on what you mean by 'big'. The longest fly I use for bass is the Hard-Hackle Worm, around 6" long. The thickest would be one of several Puglisi-Style shad imitations. The heaviest would most likely be a #1/0 Weighted Wooley Bugger.

A tandem popper that is about 5 to 6 inches long.

I prove to some folks every once in a while that I can catch bass.

Since I have never cast anything like a 6" long fly, what wt. rod and what rod do you fish with?
    Thanks,

Guess for biggest I'd have to say Dalhberg Mega Divers on 2/0 hooks, I make them as long as the Big Fly Fiber will allow...Prolly 9-10"...But they are FAR from being anywhere near the heaviest flies I throw... I think the Pigboat is about the heaviest of the flies I own/Tye..

As for the rod I throw them on...A Redington 9'6" 7wt. Blank that I built and kept everything to the bare minium so it would handle a 6wt line...and it tosses anything into a good wind with ease...
    Wish ya great fishing,Bill

My bass rod is a Scientific Anglers 9' 8wt with a fighting butt extension. I use a shooting taper or Bass Bug taper. The 6" on the Hard-Hackle Worm is mostly just 2 long feathers that stick out the back. It is a deadly Black Bass Fly, and I've even done well on stripers with a white version. For bass, I usually use purple or black.

5 plus inches on a size 2 hook. A big fly is good for bass but the bigger flies do not do as well for crappie and other fish

8 to 10 inches long on a 6/0 hook to imitate the stocked trout in the local reservoirs. Yes, they do catch bass. These are still smaller than the big swim baits the gear guys toss. The largest that I frequently use are 5 to 6 inches long.
