Pros and Cons of the Pfluger Supreme and Trion.

Hi all,
I recently bought a new sage xp 8 weight and I narrowed my choice down to the Pfluger Supreme and the Trion. I will be fishing of atlantic salmon. I have seen people using bouth of these reels this summer and i was wondering of anyone who has done any fishing with them could give me some info.

i looked at one at one of the fly fishing shows and it literally came apart in my hand while the rep was standing right there. its not a reel thats in my arsenal!

A couple friends of mine have the Trion's and they love them. They're pretty smooth.

I have the "trion" with other companys name on it. It is a good reel for my 5wt decent drag landed some 26inc bows on it and some big dollies with it never had a problem

I have a Pfluger Supreme and its been a great trout reel and still has a lot of life in it. The only problem I have found with it is the colour, its gold and sometimes reflects on the water. Is this a big a problem as some people think, I just don't know. I still catch fish with it.

I have a Pflueger Supreme 1834 - paired up with a 6'6" 2wt. Even though it's click and pawl, it handled some really scrappy rainbows and brookies on the upper Deschutes last week.

Also heard great things about the Trion.

I have a Trion 9/10, I like it okay. Nice looking. It isn't very wide so it doesn't hold much 30# backing with wf9f salmon line on it. The drag isn't strong enough to hold a 25 pound king salmon, so you have to palm it. It was only 75 bucks.

I have the Trion in the 1978 size on my steelhead outfit and the Orvis Mach IV (Pflueger President) on my 8 & 9 wt salmon rods. The drag on both are very smooth and I would recommend either for your intended use. I've only fought 50 or so slamon/steelhead with the Trion (without incident), but have battled a few hunderd salmon with the Mach plus a 1-1/2 long fight with a 70# Tarpon and the reel performed flawlessly. I think you would be happy with either but would recommend the President over the Trion for the few extra dollars.
