In the 1930's they wore mostly Fedoras, probably fur felt ones which are quite expensive today. You can get some good, water repellent crushable wool felt ones for reasonable prices. Hartford York, a hat selling company sells both varieties. They have a very nice crushable, water repellent wool felt snap brim made by Scala for 55 bucks. It has a grosgrain band but don't try putting a barbed fly in it or you will never get it out! The have a web site where you can look at them and other fedora type hats like Irish wool Trilby's (aka "walking hats")which make great fishing hats! http://www.hartfordyork.com.

Keep your head dry!

Bob

PS: The Scala hat described above is known as the "Roadmaster."
