Thread: Bobbin Holders for Pearsall's Bobbin (Revised)

  1. #1

Default Bobbin Holders for Pearsall's Bobbin (Revised)

I have been asked recently what type of bobbin holders I use for Pearsall's Silks.

Ken Newton Professional Ceramic Bobbin Holders, available in Standard or Mini size,
Mini Bobbin Holders suit Pearsall?s size bobbins, for all other sizes use the Standard Bobbin Holder.
    ? 12.80 about $25.60.
They are not cheap, I have had mine about 7 or 8 years and they were cheaper then.

Had no image, should be ok now.

    Donald,

What do you think about the Matarelli midge bobbin for use with Pearsalls?

    Donald,

Do you, per chance, have the web site for a retailer that carries those bobbin holders?

By the way, I mailed a package to you this afternoon. Sorry to take so long.

Tyrone, I don't know the Matarelli, but the name is well-known so it should be ok, just as long as it works.

Ron, Thanks a lot, I will be looking forward to it.
And thanks Normand, that is the correct website, but they seemed to be out of stock at the moment Ron.
I'll have a search and see if I can find an alternative supplier.

    Donald,

No problem. The two I have from Wasatch work nicely, but you can never tell when the urge to try something new may crop up.

I see that Whitetail Fly Tieing http://www.whitetailflytieing.com/PDF/2007v1.5.pdf sells Ken Newton products, but does not list the bobbin holders. Perhaps they can special order it.

if you are creative enough, cant you rebend the legs of ANY bobbin to work with a smaller spool???

seems to me thats cheaper than buying a specialty item thats not really needed.

    Normand,

I've tried regular bobbin holders with the small Pearsall's spools (also Gordon Griffiths thread) and the boobin holders just twist up, making them difficult to work with. The smaller bobbins made for these small spools work very well, with no twist in the legs. For those folks who use a lot of the tying silks and threads on small spools, a good bobbin holder is a musut.
