Hi,

I got to looking at a few patterns I have, and noticed there are a number that have dual coloured bodies. This, I believe, is a left over from the days of the fully dressed salmon flies. Nemes, in his soft hackle books, lists a "red and black" spider, which is similar to the harlequin below (change the blue front to black basically), and suggests it's a stone fly. Pritt lists a few "bi-colours" in his list, and I've found a few on-line (such as the Mairi and Jock below). Anyway, I've become quite taken by these patterns and think they look quite dashing. Hopefully the fish will agree! Anyone else this body type much?

(This should have pheasant hen wings, but I accidently used my last bit of blue mallard that was to be for the Jock!)
Mairi :

Jock (although a bit off, the wing should be the blue section of a mallard wing, with the white tips; like the Mairi above) and guinea fowl hackle (I should have used grizzle)

Harlequin (sp?) sometimes tied with tippets for a tail:

And just one of my own designs, a "green and orange".
