    Chris,

    Two-prong response to your question:

Still available in the stores is Tiemco 518 #32. While a small hook, I generally refer to it as a "Big Iron". The gape is like a #28 hook, with a slightly shorter shank. So in essence this hook is a short-shank #28.

No longer available (only one batch produced in the early eighties) are what I would call the 'real' #32 hook: Mustad 277 #32. These are of a different order of magnitude. See below:

Tying on these is, eh... an educational experience

Occasionally some of these hooks turn up on eBay, fetching silly prices.

    Cheers,
    Hans W

    wow, thanks alot!

i guess my search to tie on the infamous 32, is a little thwarted.
but i bet 28 is plenty small!

    Chris,

My fav small size hook to tie on, and fish with, is the Tiemco 2488, a scud hook. You can get down to #30.

    Chris:

You wouldn't like those old Mustad 277's anyway. The had NO eyes!

We used to tie them up years ago as snelled flies using the also extinct Pezon et Michele 15X tippet material just for laughs.

We would fish them at the infamous "Ditch" at Big Springs just to see how many missed hooksets we could rack up, (about 10 per session); how long we could keep a fish on IF we hooked it, (about 3 seconds); or how long it took to get totally frustrated, (about 10 minutes).

On the other hand; the TMC 518 "fake 32" is a pretty effective hook and I have caught quite a few fish on them.

    Good luck!

    Bamboozl,

I concur on the 277 hook. While I enjoy, from time to time, to tie on them I certainly never would, or suggest anyone else would, fish them

    Cheers,

I know this guy...NOT me you understand...

Well this guy had a brother who had an aquarium with goldfish in it...

Well, so... this guy waits until Chris, er I mean this guy's little brother isn't home and he puts a little blob of moist bread on the end of one of those size 32 Mustad's attached to some leader material and a short stick.

And I, er...this guy then proceeds to catch a GOLDFISH!

It was cool...er I mean, he told me it was cool!

Yea...that's what he told me alright...

Interesting story about goldfish...never caught any - swallowed a few, but that was about it.

Funny what "liquid courage" and some well placed jeering from your friends can accomplish.
Thank God for my wife, the midge nymph and those hapless Iowa Hawkeyes!
