Thread: H&H brand fly line

    Default H&H brand fly line

    Hi everyone,

I tried to do a search and didn't come up with what I was looking for (got tired of digging through the bazillion hook and hackle hits looking for what I wanted).

Anyone here used or currently using the H&H Brand Hi-floater fly line? I'd like some opinions about it. It's a great deal cost wise, but how does it measure up to the name brands? I currently use Cortland 555 Dyna tip, SA Ultra 4, and Rio lines. I need a DT4F line, but need to keep costs under control.

So is this line worth looking at?

    Regards,
    Starfish

Never tried it myself, but i've heard good things about it from cane users.

I have used the H&H Hi-floater lines for about a year on cane rods. It appears to be a high quality line (I am using a 4DT and 5DT). The line is very like the old Cortland 444 Peach except in color. It floats well and has a strong smooth surface. Like the Peach it is a relatively soft line. This means it has little memory and coils little even on colder days. Because of the softer surface it will not shoot as well as some lines (it seems lines tend to trade a hard surface and the ability to shoot well with a soft surface and low memory). All and all, in my opinion it is a very good line at a good price - as long as it has the characteristics you want. These characteristics make it popular with bamboo and other slower rods but are likely to make it less than ideal if you prefer very fast rods.

This is all pretty much my own opinion and worth just about what you paid for it.

I use the H&H DT2 wt on my H&H 6'6" 2 wt. Works quite well for me.

I use it on three outfits and plan to order another for my five weight.

    Okay, so I'm convinced then.

I, generally speaking, believe in the "you get what you pay for" motto, but of course, I'm always delighted to find exceptions.

    Thanks everyone,

I'm currently throwing an H&H 7wf, a 5wf and a 3DT...love all three of them but as noted, probably a better line for medium rods than fast rods. Great value in a line and I'll buy more!

I picked up the DTF3 this spring. I have nothing to complain about yet! It's a nice line...especially for the price.
I, too, will be buying more.
