While out on The West Canada Creek this morning, my friend and I both came across two firsts. Not only did we both catch our personal best stream/river, non-lake-run brown trout of 24.5 inches, but we both caught that very same fish in less than a half an hour of each other! I had caught the fish first, and brought him in next to me, kicking myself because I didn't bring my net. As I held onto the leader and was looking for a place to set my rod down, he jerked his head and broke off the tippet, swimming away with my fly in his mouth. My friend Bob had come up behind me and fished the same area shortly afterward, and caught the same fish with the telltale fly in his mouth. Since he was smart enough to bring his net, he got to measure him. I also got my fly back, of course.
