There's a little shop in Grayling where and old fly fisherman sells flies out of his garage. Great fella. Historical, - all of that. But you can only buy what he happens to be tying at the time - and those disappear quick. I haven't been there for several years, the Old Master used to go there and since he can't fish much anymore, we don't get there much. I hope all is well with the old fly fisherman/tyer. I'd check on him but I can't remember how to get there.

I agree that buying flies at shops like Rusty's and the OFF (old fly fisher) is a good thing to do. You get good ties on good hooks that are geared to the local fish. Some say the local fish even prefer them (Oh Gosh! I started that "do fish think and tell their buddies" crap again). Support your local shop regardless of the cost - otherwise it might not be there when you really need it. I realize I am preaching to the choir again.
