I went out again today to continue my quest to catch carp haha. Thought I had one.......at first.

I was down at the river today, about 3:30pm, had 3-4 casts in the water. Then I fired out my line again, but only about 6-10 feet ahead of me. Then I had a good strike, now the only rod I own is a 7wt, so that's what I'm using. So, this fish takes off. Running and thrashing. At first, thought I had a carp. So about 3-4 minutes later I get the fish in. And what do you know? A really nice smallmouth. Largest SM I've caught to date. Usually I'm used to young smallies, a light bronze colour, this one was all striped up, brindle kind of colour, a mature fish for sure.

Because of my 7wt and me used to catching small rock bass or other panfish of sorts, it's not very thrilling of a battle. But today, it certainly was, and from now till forever, I'm a flyfisherman and never looking back.

Thanks guys,
Shane
