Good fishing technique trumps all.....wish I had it.
I second the suggestion of substituting bead-chain for the eyes. Standard lead barbell eyes sink way to fast for where I normally fish. I just tied my first Clouser last weekend, and tied up some with bead-chain eyes. I also intend to get some plastic bead-chain for some even lighter eyes.
I just got Bob Clouser's book, "Clouser's Flies", from the library today. In his book he also suggests using plastic and metal bead-chain for slower descending flies.
I lose standard Clousers pretty fast, I'm hoping the ones tied with bead-chain last a little longer.

One other tip. Tie them sparcely. You don't need a bunch of hair on there to have a successful fly. JGW
