Spent a couple of days the end of last week camping at the Tippy Dam on the big Manistee River. Friday a total of 8 people from our club (Three Rivers Fly fishers in Ft. Wayne) floated the big river from Tippy Dam to High Bridge. 4 of us on pontoons and 4 others in 2 drift boats. The fishing was ok, but not outstanding. Small fishand mostly on the upper 1/2 of the trip as the water was quite warm further down from the dam. Bright blue skies and high pressure didn't help the fishing I'm sure. There was a Hex hatch on Thursday late evening, but no reports of anything taking them from two different groups.

Sat. 4 of us drove just a short way south to the Little Manistee River. This was my first time on the river and I loved it. A nice tight little river with some nice fish if you work for them a little.

The Little Manistee also gets runs of Salmon and Steelhead and I can't imagine getting even a 6 or 8 lb steelhead on the line in this small river. I asked one of our members who has a cabin about 100 yds from the river how he ever lands one in that river with all the tangles and stumps and such. He said he usually doesn't, but he sure has fun with them for a few minutes.

Here's a friend of mine on the Little manistee throwing a hopper/dropper rig which was pretty deadly on this day.
