    rod is 9/10 cortland can i go to 8wt

    Do you mean to underline the rod? I'd suggest trying it first. Find someone with and 8 wt. that will loan it to you to try. Underlining and overlining can have interesting results!

    Hey backwoods, good to see you here (im Zander from ffing manitoba).

    You should be okay withan 8wt reel on a 9/10 rod. You'll just lose some backing capacity with the 9 wt line.

    Im guessing you're goin for pike? you should be fine
