Alaska

I am going to be in Alaska for a couple of weeks next month and will get one day to try my luck. Anyone know what is in season and got any recommendations? I'll be fishing on the 20th of July 2007 in either the 20 mile or 6 mile river systems near Girdwood.

Perch - Thanks for the reply. I am going on what may be a once in a lifetime trip and couldn't pass up the opportunity. It is a two week tour but only had one free day. I researched the area and checked with the tour company, the hotel and on-line and found a guided trip that was close enought to the hotel for a full day (7:00AM till 7:00PM) I was really hoping for suggestions on what fish would be in that time of year and thoughts on what to use.

You have one day to fish in Alaska.
If this is not a frequent thing in your life dont blow it.
Get a GUIDE or you will MISS OUT!!!
Dont wait till you get there either, plan (like it seems you are) well in advance.
Its a great place for an adventure.

Just wanted to let you know that I did get the chance to fish for a day. The king salmon had already run, the pinks and chums were not in, so I missed the salmon. Since we didn't have great luck with the salmon, the guide took us up river a little way and we hooked into a pretty good school of dolly vardin. Between my father and I we caugut and released about 15 in about an hour. Most were in the 18" to 20" inch range and were a blast to catch.

The one thing I have to say after making the trip is that some day some way, I am going back!!!!!!
