Thread: I'm getting a new bamboo!

Default I'm getting a new bamboo!

My name has finally come up for a rod from Per Brandin. I've been on the waiting list for years. The rod I ordered is a 804-2 df HB. Before I commit to this rod is there a better rod/taper I should get? I do 99% of my fishing on the Farmington River between Collinsville & Riverton. I have also heard great things about his 803 df HB hex. I fish a fly between 16 & 20 most of the season. I like a crisp dry fly action (Payne 98 is my fav, I also love quads) Once he gets my deposit I'll have the rod in 8 months!! Any opinions on his best rod/taper?? here is a link to his trout rods.

Congratulations Ray. I know you've been waiting awhile,
Sorry I can't help with your question. If the circumstance was reversed and I had to make the choice you're the first person I would ask for an opinion.
    Good luck.

Congrats Ray. It's going to be a long 8 months for you.

I don't feel experienced enough to recommend a taper. I personally like Dickerson tapers, but I like a bamboo on the fast side. Although fast in bamboo is still slower than any graphite i've cast.

Oh heck! Since when don't I have an opinion? I like the 8013 Dickerson.

Gramps, Per uses his own tapers. Look at his site for ideas.

Yes, I should have looked at his sight first. From what you say you like and what you picked seems to match up nice. Crisp med-fast action. Similar to the Dickerson.

    Pricey aren't they?

Ah grasshoppa, when you can tell me why you deserve such a rod and why you truthfully want one, then you can let him decide for you.

Here's the rod I leaning towards:

    804-2 df HB

Eight feet in two pieces for a #4 line in hollowbuilt construction. This rod is more positive than more traditional cane rods of this length and line weight. This is made possible by combining four strip construction with sophisticated hollowbuilding and taper design. Action is medium-fast, and a cap & ring reelseat is standard. Wraps are olive.

My other option is the same rod in 7 1/2'
