    Default Why fish?

    Yesterday was one of "THOSE" days. Lack of sleep, family problem, and work stress all came together in a perfect storm of sh*#. I took off work for the day and finally got the family crap worked out. It was 7:30am and I tossed on my wading shorts, grabbed my 3wt and took off for my spot on the Olentangy, a nice little stream here in central Ohio. I put on a little Carolina Blue popper and commenced to fish. Two ducks swam by, a flock of Canadians flew over, and a turtle surfaced right by me. It was a glorious morning. As I got to the rocky part of the shore, the first Smallie hit. It was only a dink, but it went airborne at least 3 times. In the next 2 hours I landed about 20 Smallies, the largest being just over 11", considered good sized on the 'Tangy. It was by far my best day for Smallies on the river and with the 3wt., every fish was a battle. By 11:00, I was home, showered, and ready for a nap. Today looks so much better.
    Why fish? Because it's almost cheaper than therapy.
    To Miss Nancy - She hated fishing, but loved a fisherman.

    raw,

    Living in Delaware Co. I'm intrigued with the Tangy and look at it everyday multiple times and tell myself I'm going to to give it a shot. As it is exremely low and we haven't had any water for a while, does that typically affect the Olentangy catch rate? Also, how do you fish a popper on a stream? Dead drift like you would a normal dry?

    Glad you could get out and get some natural therapy. The Tangy is a beautiful river to get it on.

    I swear my blood pressure drops about 20 points as soon as I'm in the car headed to the river. I'm with you on the "cheaper than therapy . . .". I did notice you included the ALMOST caveat - that one word might get my wife to agree!

    Not to get too "zen"... but it restores the natural balance of things.

    Raw69;
    I've been flyfishing 9 times this month! Caught enough Pan Fish for a fish fry and lost count of the trout brought to hand.

    cuz i love feeling the take or watching the slurp of a dry fly
    and the flick of the tail that sometimes splashes water in your face as you release them
