Thread: tubing/lace

  1. #1

    Default tubing/lace

whats the difference between larva lace and other strectch tubing etc? I'm looking for HMH brown micro tubing for the nymphomaniac in Fly Fisherman, July 2007. Anybody know if i can use other lace/tube? Does anyone on here want to sell some? Maybe the difference is just size but i don't kknow.

    Thanks

as far as i know theres not much difference between all the tubings except one may be a little stretchier than another. substitute one brand for anonther should be ok. the fish wont mind.

    well
some tubings are hollow and some are solid
some are stretchier than others and others are not as stretchy(larva lace)

i would say any brown tubing(larva lace, v-rib, liquid lace, and vinyl stretch lace) all availabe from local fly shops

    happy tying

if i had to pick just pne brand to use i would probably pick larva lace

but i have seen liquid lace in catalogs and it looks like its WAY better!!!

they even talk of putting mineral oil inside the liquid lace to put depth into your pattern!!!!!!!!!!
    how cool is that?

as for prices liquid lace is 2.65=does not say amount of material
larva lace is 1.65=does not say amount of material
    v-rib is1.50 a spool

you can buy bulk from larva lace

    8 foot long strand,

qty 12 8 foot long strands

    and 1000 foot spools!

    https://www.larvalace.com/Customer_New_Product0.asp

i would go with liquid lace as i heard its a better product than larva lace

you might want to consider v-rib, another stretchy solid body material.

    its your choice, not mine

I've used many different types of tubing/ Lace that is on the market for tying segmented bodies on many of my patterns. I've yet to find a material that can do the same thing as Liquid Lace. It truely makes my stoneflys come alive. The damsels and smaller mayfly patterns are awesome!
Ed Smith has come out with a new size that you'll be able to tye down to a #28 (I've seen him do it), it's called micro. Because the fact that it is injected with oil; it's doesn't collapse as easily as the other tubings on the market either.
Go check out his website at www.liquidlace.com to see some of the interesting patterns that you'll be tying with this stuff.
My favorites are the chironomids, Damsels, Mayflys, Stone Flys, Idaho Nymphs, Caddis Larva, emergers ... The list goes on.
