My family gave me a Smart Cast R20 a few years ago for a present because I am a dedicated bank fisherman. Anyway I started carrying it with me and checking out the waters that I've been fishing. Since the unit has to be attached to a med-heavy baitcasting or spin fishing rig it means that I have to carry two rods.

The unit gives you a pretty clear understanding about just what lies under the water. The unit that I have tells the water depth and produces a small graph all on small monitor that mounts to a fishing rod. There is a newer model now that also tells the surface water temp which would be nice. I usually find that I might change my tactics when fishing the water the next time. The only thing that I don't like about the unit is that the transponder is heavy and makes a giant splash when itis cast and you have to carry a baitcaster or spinning rod with you to use it.

I hope that I am not breaking any of the FF commandments.
