First of all, when will he be there?

The weather is best in June. But mid August to mid Oct is the best time for fishing near Anchorage.

There are streams up north on the Parks highway: Sheep, Willow, etc. They are walk-in fishing. I think (without looking) that Willow is the southernmost.

A 1.5 hour drive down to the Kenai. One has a significant chance of catching a big fish on the Kenai, it's just a little crowded earlier in the day. The sockeye (reds) run first. But the trout gorge once the chinook start laying eggs in early Augsut and start dying off. I'd love to be therein late Aug to early Sept myself if time and biz permit.

Look at the Cooper's Landing Guide site. Or Kenai River Professional Guide Site.

Fred Telleen, Mystic Waters guide service, is friendly and professional. He is set up to fish the uppersection, to put in at Jim's and fish the canyon down to Skilak, and can fish below skilak lake down toward the sterling landing.

Billy Couillette at Troutfitters is a good guide. I'd fish with fred or him. [url=http://www.aktroutfitters.com/alaska_fishing_guides.html:18a8e]http://www.aktroutfitters.com/alaska_fishing_guides.html[/url:18a8e]

Josh Hayes, his buddy, is another good choice. He is not with Troutfitters, the last I heard he ran a service called Rainbow Alley.

Tom Lessard at Coopers Landing Fish Camp is another choice.

Be advised that it is party boat fishing on the Kenai. They run big 20 footers and try to have 4 anglers due to permitting regs. and limited starts. A boat is a big advantage if not a necessity on the Kenai. It is not a wadefishing river.

It may be a little more personal to hire a guide for a walk in on the Russian River, which feeds into the Kenai. It is much more amenable to wade fishing.

The guys in the fishing dept. at Mountain View Sports in Anchorage are a good source of info too, once on the ground there.

I'd recommend the prime rib at Sackett's at Cooper's Landing, if still open. They have a place at Sterling too.
