Sorry I got in on this after the votes were counted. I fish two fly systems a great deal of the time, generally either on new water, or if I'm not sure where the fish are going to be in the water column. I'll also often drop a small emerger or soft hackle off the back of a bass popper so the bluegill keep me entertained until ol' bucketmouth comes along I sometimes think the distress of the small bluegills being caught gets the basses' attention and brings them up to the popper.
If it swims and eats, it'll eat a fly.

I only use single flies. My ego couldn't handle the rejection of more than one fly at a time.

"Look Mama, he's got 5 flies on his line and he STILL ain't caught anything."
"Hush up child, and put that fish in the bucket."

But ED, you would have a 5 times better chance of hooking a tree!

The amount of time and trouble spent untangling flies and hooks is equal to the square of the number of flies being used.

At least that's my personal observation and I just about always use two flies.

Several post have commented on getting the flies tangled. I believe that many tangles can be eliminated by doing two things: (10 Tying the two flies closer together, like about 12 -14 inches rather than 2 feet apart and (2) Tying the upper fly onto to the leader with a knot that does not leave a loop in the leader.

I am fairly sure that getting the flies tangled is most often caused by me using a poor casting technique. Getting lazy on line pick up off the water and/or the stroke.

Shortening the dropper line may help too.

I have alway heard fishermen were supposed to be patience, isn't the patiences for untangling line?
