Game warden at TU meeting last night informed us that there's now been fish kills reported in the Cowpasture River (Alleghaney County), which empties into the Upper James River, in Botetourt County, just below the Alleghaney County line. They're asking that any further kills observed be reported to them. Sounds like the same problems the Shenandoah River has been experiencing the last couple of years. Very bad news if it gets into the smallmouth population in the James as it has in the Shenandoah. I believe the warden said hog suckers as well as other species have been effected.
