Try flyfishingconnection.com. Select Michigan Rivers and the Asuable. There is a guide to the river as well as a hatch chart.
There are 2 campgrounds on the South Branch just East of Grayling.
Lady Fisher gave me some good information on the same subject awhile back and I promptly lost it!! DUH!! There a quite a few events going on in July, if I rembember right and it may be crowded.
I'd like to have a "Gathering" of FOAL members there next August.
Good luck and let us know how it was.

You must mean New York.

For the Ausable, try contacting Kevin at Ausable River Sports Shop[/url:6829e]. Also, check his river reports, as I find some of the most honest river reports on the web for any river.

The Salmon (I assume you mean the one that flows through Malone and not the one in Pulaski) is alright below Malone... although the only time I've fished it was when I was just starting out. The guy who taught me flyfishing fishes it frequently, and does pretty well. Try finding the number for "Wear On Earth", a sporting goods shop in Potsdam NY that has a small flyfishing dept (the guy who taught me to FF used to (maybe still does) work there).

The Chateguay gets pretty warm in the summer, and I've only been there once, and didn't have any luck. Again, I was just starting out, and really didn't know much. I fished right below the huge bridge outside of the village of Chateguay... nice access, but I didn't venture much up or downstream.

Since you mentioned alternative rivers ,such as the Salmon ,the Marble , and Chateaugay , I assume that you are inquiring about the Ausable in New York State.
For the Salmon River , and the Chateaugay (Franklin County) , you will find rainbows, brown and brook trout . Much of the area is remote in the Malone NY area once you get out of the village, and there are few, if any flyshops available. A DEC stocking report is available at : <<http://www.dec.state.ny.us/website/d.../stokfran.html >>
For the East and West Branch of Ausable River ( Essex County) the DEC stocking report is at :
That being said, the best source of current information on these areas can be obtained at any of several local flyshops. One that comes to mind is Francis Betters at: << adirondackflyfishing.com/ >> which includes several regional fly recipies. Also , Jones Outfitters Limited, 331 Main Street, Lake Placid NY at :
<< http://www.jonesoutfitters.com/flyshop.htm[/url:ad6c4] >> which also offers regional and river coditions, and kyack rentals .
Since you didnt mention which time of the year you were going , check out the NYS stream flows for current information (updated every four hours) at :
Also, in addition to the above listed flyshop, check out "North Country Outfitters", just about 2 miles west of Potsdam NY on Route #11. They have a nice selection of regional flys and a small flyshop.
Incidently , I like your closing signature : "Tight lines , taught threads"
It works for me (!), and couldnt have been better said .

thanks all! I am so exited! I've heard that the ausable is getting hit hard. Since it is pocketwater it is very hard to fing a good spot . Oh well, i've heard to much about it to pass the opportunity by
thanks again, yung

yung,
Jonesoutfitters also had several alternative sites and little known places to fish. You might want to give them a call , or visit their website for further information.
Also , you may want to look more at attractor flys for "picking the pocket".

If you fish the Ausable stick to the West Branch. Be sure you have a dependable wading staff as it has some of the most slippery rock bottom I have ever run into. There is a 5 mile stretch of C&R and just this year another 1.5 miles was made C&R from the Whiteface ski area to the bridge at the Hungry Trout Restaurant and Motel and Fly Shop. You should eat there at least once during your stay. There are 3 major fly shops on the river. Kevins shop at the Wilmington Bridge, The one at the Hungry Trout and , a must visit, Fran Betters Adirondack Sportsman Shop.
Like everything else early morning or the hour B4 dark is the best fishing on top. Nymph all day long thru the pocket water. I fish about 20 days a year up there. If weather is cloudy and a lit rain fish small olives....Good luck and watch your wading.....Bob
