Which do you perfer and why?
Tapered or Furled? I am using tapered, but intersted in furled so this is a little research.

Bill, I make, buy and use just about every type of leader you can imagine (except braided, hate those), and it's kinda like fly rods....you need different ones for different purposes.

I'm about to try one of Kathy Scott's furled leaders (As soon as the weather lets me!!).
There has been a lot said about them here, both pro & con. So, got to give it a whirl!

Don't know anything about furled but what I usually do is buy a tapered stronger than what I intend to fish....say a 7 1/2 ft tapered in a 3x and then add 4x and /or 5x tippet..that way as I work back on the tippet I always know the strength of the remaining leader...easier for me but I'm sure many of you can eyeball it and know what's left after gradually moving up a leader.

OK, so in the current market if you were going to buy a new MONO tapered leader what brand would it be?

    Tippet?

    How about in fluorocarbon?

I have always knotted my own leaders, but I just got my first furled ones.... no sales resistance I guess. If they work I'll have to get out the woodworking equipment and ....

I tie my own tapered leaders (haven't tried furles, ... yet).

I like really long leaders and have to turn over BIG bushy dries (#6 - #4). So I like stiff butt stuff.

    Personal preference I guess.
