I think I get you.

I look at it this way.

You can always 'try' to establish a pattern based on repeatable elements if that is what you want to do.

Sometimes, due to conditions present, you just can't do so.

However, while trying, you can still catch, and often do catch, the occasional fish.

For me, it only becomes a 'pattern' if I can reliably repeat it at different locations with the same elements.

Doesn't happen all the time, not even a majority of the time. But, having some type of methodology to follow gives a foundation for the effort, as well as a way to interpret it.

Sometimes it's not even something that you'd want to do.

It's just one approach to catching fish that I know works sometimes, and that when it does work, it works quite well.

There are other 'methods' that work. Nothing 'wrong' or 'right' here, it's all really just fishing.
