When you arise in the morning, think of what a
precious privilege it is to be alive - to breathe, to think,
to enjoy, to love.

Spinner1,
Which streams are you on and where on the streams. I'd like to fish those spots next time I am in WI!!!
AC
I am moving to La Crosse in September. Is there any website or book out there I can get my hands on that will better aquaint me with the fishing out there? I'll actually be stationed at Fort McCoy but I am planning on commuting.
There are trout streams and ponds on Fort McCoy, that you can fish. You are able to reach these sites using your POV (Personnal Owned Vehicle). The area around the fishing areas have enough backcast space to not have to worry about the backcast.
You will need a Wisconsin Fishing License and Trout Stamp, and a Base Fishing Permit.

Thanks for the info. I'm coming out of Company Command and I am going to McCoy for an AC/RC assignment. Basically other than working, I am trying to work on my Graduate Degree and get in lots of fishing. I'm really looking forward to living in that area for a few years, looks like great country and nice people.
One more question: Are there any streams that are open year round? I know the winter is rough, but my buddy who lives in Milwaukee says they get some sporadic warmer weather in the late fall/early winter.
Trout season pretty much shuts down Sept 30 in WI. That doesn't mean that fishing does. There is always something to fish for somewhere.

I should have mentioned that MN has an early C&R season that begins in Jan. Living so close to the border you may want to consider a license there also. And I believe IA trout stays open all year. You will be within an hours drive or less.
